This collection primarily consists of handwritten documents pertaining to ownership history of tracts of land purchased by Joseph A. S. Acklen in the 1850s in West Feliciana Parish, La. Included also are newspaper clippings, later-era typed transcriptions of legal documents, property maps, photographs, handwritten correspondence with mailed envelopes, and insurance policy certificates. Most of these originated in Louisiana; a few are from Tennessee. Some items are undated.
